Pauline Hanson wants to take the right to vote away from young people.

Yep, you are reading this correctly. On Sunrise this week, she declared she wanted to raise the voting age from 18 to 21 – in a time where young people are more politically engaged as ever.

She says “they’re idiots” who have “never had a job”, “don’t pay taxes” and “have no understanding” about politics. Well Pauline, I hate to break it to you, but you can’t stop young people from having their say.

This comes at a time when almost 65,000 people aged 18-24 put their names on the electoral roll to have their say in the Government’s marriage equality survey.

It’s time we took a stand. It’s time to stop Pauline.

Australia’s democracy is stronger when young people get a say in their future. Australians aged 18-20 must have their rights to vote and participation in democracy protected. We reject any moves to strip young Australians of their right to vote.
