The so called 'economic argument' for an international nuclear waste dump in South Australia is a cruel joke, Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young has said, after it was revealed that two of its key authors work for a pro-nuclear organisation.
"This sham modelling has been revealed as a cruel joke on a state that is looking for jobs and a secure, long term economic future," Senator Hanson-Young said.
"South Australia's prosperity cannot be built on a foundation of dodgy modelling and nuclear waste.
"This biased report isn't worth the paper it was written on and has fundamentally undermined the push for a nuclear waste dump in South Australia.
"It's not surprising that a pro-nuclear organisation would come up with economic modelling that supports turning SA into the world's waste dump.
"This agenda driven and biased modelling formed the central plank of the government's push for nuclear storage which should now be dropped, once and for all.
"South Australia has a bright future. The transition to renewable energy is ready to take our state forward and create thousands of jobs, so let's get on with it."
